About Us

Sugarland will be closed for spring break on Monday March 8 and Tuesday  March 9 for some spring cleaning.

Sugarland is Chapel Hill’s very own bakery and dessert cafe, right in the heart of Franklin Street. Join us for lattes and beignets in the morning and in the evening for cocktails and crème brulee.

Like Chapel Hill, Sugarland has deep southern roots and international flair. It's cookies and milk after school, and cocktails and creme brulee after Memorial Hall. Our cases are filled with hand-made small batch pastries made with local, organic ingredients, and our gelato is made fresh everyday with authentic Italian recipes, ingredients and methods. Our bakers and pastry chefs love their work and look forward to sharing their passion with you.

We serve award-winning breakfast pastries, cakes, tarts as well as 24 flavors of authentic gelato and plated desserts from 9 AM to midnight daily. We have a full bar, including an impressive selection of wines by the glass, and have Franklin Street's best coffee, specially blended and roasted weekly for us by Counter Culture Coffee.

Our wedding and other special occasion cakes are made fresh, never frozen, which means they are as delicious as they are beautiful. Your guests will tell you its the best cake they've ever had. With incredible flavors like Banana Nutella, Wimbledon, and Casey's Cake, rich with passion fruit and fresh raspberries, you've never had cake like this before.

Sugarland will be closed for Spring break on Monday March 8 and Tuesday March 9th.

Sugarland is Chapel Hill's own locally owned dessert cafe right in the heart of historic Franklin Street. We're here for beignets and cafe au lait in the morning right on through to cabernet and creme brulee after a  show at Memorial Hall.

Check out our menu! The Indepenent, Metro Magazine, Our State, and  the News and Observer have all called Sugarland's desserts the best in the Triangle.

Because great desserts start with great ingredients, we make everything from scratch with great local ingredients like flour from Alamance County, eggs from Roxboro, and fresh dairy from right here in North Carolina.  Our chocolate is fair trade and comes directly to us from South America, and even our vanilla extract is blended just for us from organic, fair trade sources.

Whether it's a day out with the family, a girls night out, a great date night, or a  spectacular cake for your next event, we hope you'll stop by. We're here everyday, and we're open late!

See you on Franklin Street!
